Hey tribe,
i recently wrote this message to Caleb, about my memories of The The.
thought others may want to share their love afair with matt johnson....
j

soul mining was the one that did it for me....
I had heard "perfect" and "this is the day" as a little kid ( I think I was 4 when that album came out)
but I was too young to know who the band was or anything.
I bought "DUSK" when it came out, not making the connection to the earlier '80s TheThe,
and I was intrigued, but not an instant fan.
My older sister told me to get a copy of "soul mining"
I heard "this is the day" and was like, 'oh yeah! THIS is the the....!"
I proceeded to collect the remaining albums (infected, mind bomb, and burning blue soul), as well as the music videos.
I was so into them in 9th grade, I made a mixed tape for my best girl friend with hand drawn illustrations to the songs.
THe sides of the tape were labeled,
"This is the the day"
and
"this is the the Night"
cleverly playing on the song titles contained within.
The day side featured the more poppy, upbeat songs (well, as close as matt gets)
and the night side featured ballads and darker, introspective songs.
My friend was so enamoured of this mix tape that I think she played it till it wore out.
We would stay up late talking on the phone analyzing his depressing lyrics and comparing them to our own angst ridden teenage lives.
yes, that WAS the day....

it's an amazing show, Johnny Marr is mindblowing.

I once had a copy of "infected" on VHS, which was music videos for that album.
I believe they have on other video that I haven't seen,
anyone got the details?

Any rumors of plans to re-release these gems as Dvd's?
they're well worth the remastering....!
